Origins

Following World War II (where he survived five and a half years in Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps), he began cooking in a German bakery for American soldiers. There he learned the art of making bagels, which he brought with him to Australia in 1949.

  • Although now in his 70s, he still regularly works six days (around 70 hours) a week.
